The UMKC softball team is excited to take the field this coming Saturday September 30th for their next two Fall exhibition games. After defeating Avila University last weekend, the Kangaroos are preparing for a double header at the Urban Youth Academy complex against Mid-America Nazarene University Pioneers from Olathe, KS and the Creighton University Blue Jays from Omaha, NE. UMKC was led in the circle last weekend by Sophomore Andra O’Brien (Fon Du Lac, WI) and freshman Ashlynn Robinson (Blue, OK) who both threw well and allowed UMKC to pick up a 10-4 victory. Both O’Brien and Robinson will play a vital role this coming weekend as well. Offensively, the Kangaroos were powered by senior Kelsey Goodwin, junior Morgan Byrn, and the sophomore duo of Lia Lombardini and Sydney Garcia who all had two hits a piece in the UMKC victory. When asked about the upcoming games, head coach Meredith Smith said, “This is a great opportunity to measure ourselves against one of the best NAIA schools in the Midwest as well as against a fellow NCAA D-1 opponent whom we play on a regular basis. We can really test ourselves against good competition and see how we are developing at this point in the Fall. We are excited to host another day of games at our new facility that presented a great experience for all of the fans that came out last weekend.” The schedule for Saturday is: UMKC vs Mid-America Nazarene at 11am followed by UMKC vs Creighton at 1pm. Mid-America Nazarene will also face Creighton at 3pm. Please come out and support the Roos this Saturday.
