KANSAS CITY, Mo. – The UMKC track & field teams opened up the 2019 outdoor campaign with a trip to Wichita, Kan., for the Herm Wilson Invitational presented by Beynon Sports Surfaces.
In the event, UMKC notched three top-five all-time performances in school history, while taking the title in a pair of events.
On the men’s side, Perry Adderley finished fourth in the shot put with a toss of 16.63m, good for third best in school history and Ekhardt Van der Watt placed second in the pole vault with a mark of 4.77m, third best in school history, while on the women’s side, Claire Fulhage came in second in the 3,000-meter steeplechase in a time of 11:31.84, fifth best ever at UMKC.
Ryan Parson, meanwhile, finished second in the 1,500-meter run at 3:59.96, while Carolyn Ross came in second in the 400-meter hurdles at 1:01.56 and Halley Dean placed second in the 5,000-meter run at 17:39.13.
Picking up third place results for UMKC were Maurice Miller in the 3,000-meter steeplechase at 10:33.09, Jaquez Perry in the 400-meter run at 48.63, Max Selbach in the 3,000-meter run at 8:45.09 and Mia Jerman in the 3,000-meter steeplechase at 11:49.52.
The Blue & Gold will be back in action again next week when they take part in the San Francisco State Distance Carnival in San Francisco, Calif., on Mar. 28 and in the Jimmy Johns ORU Invitational on Mar. 29-30 in Tulsa, Okla.
