KANSAS CITY, Mo. – The UMKC track and field team wrapped-up competition on the opening day of the 3rd Annual Indoor Gorilla Classic at the Robert W. Plaster Center – Harvey Dean Track in Pittsburg, Kan.
Fred Boyd, Jr. (Detroit, Mich.) paced the Roos on day one as the senior qualified for the prelims with the second fastest time of the event in the 60-meter hurdles with a time of 8.32.
Christopher Bryan (St. Catherine, Jamaica) added a top-10 result for the Roos with a seventh place finish in the long jump with a mark of 7.12 meters and a 30th place finish in the 200-meter dash with a time of 22.15.
On the women’s side Blessing Oparaji (St. Louis, Mo.) placed 29th at 4.97 meters in the long jump and 26th in the 60-meter dash with a time of 7.95. Carolyn Ross (St. Louis, Mo.), meanwhile, finished 25th in the long jump with a jump of 5.06 meters.
In the weight throw, Jacob Hockman (Centralia, Mo.) finished 12th with a toss of 13.80 meters and on the women’s side, Matia Finley (Lawrence, Kan.) finished 20th at 14.54 meters and Rebecca Finley (Lawrence, Kan.) came in 23rd at 14.40 meters.
In the 60-meter dash, Chadayne Walker (Portmore, Jamaica) finished 11th with a time of 6.88 to advance to the prelims and for the women, Louisa Nylander (Jefferson City, Mo.) finished 21st with a mark of 7.90.
In women’s 60-meter hurdles, Chesney Walker (Scottsbluff, Neb.) placed 26th, finishing with a time of 9.42.
