Roos Close Out Day One of Graduate Classic

LINCOLN, Neb. – The UMKC men’s and women’s track and field teams will resume the 2018 indoor slate at the Graduate Classic, hosted by the University of Nebraska, Jan. 12-13.

In distance events, Quinlan Moll and Chandler Carreon swept the 5,000-meter run with times of 14:52.68 and 18:02.62, respectively. Junior Darrien Case snagged a top-three finish in the men’s 1,000-meter run with a time of 2:33.43.

On the men’s side, Zane Lockhart secured a pair of personal bests in the 60-meter hurdles (9.31 seconds) and long jump (6.33 meters). Christopher Bryan also collected a personal best in the long jump, finishing third with a leap of 7.29 meters. The sophomore ran the second-fastest time in the 60-meter hurdles with a time of 8.26 seconds to advance to the finals. Other notable performances included a top-three performance by Jamarice Preston in the men’s unseeded high jump, as he cleared 1.94 meters in the event.

On the women’s side, Jada Steele led the way in the women’s 60-meter hurdles qualifying race, finishing second overall with a time of 9.15 seconds. Teammate Genel Rollins grabbed a top-three finish in the 60-meter dash qualifying race for UMKC to lead the Roos with a time of 7.80 seconds in the event. Steele, Blessing Oparaji and Louisa Nylander all set a personal best in the fastest race on the track as well.

UMKC will conclude the Graduate Classic on Saturday with several events on both the men’s and the women’s side.
