EDINBURG, Texas – The UMKC track and field team concluded multi events and battled in the 10,000-meter run on the second day of the Western Athletic Conference Outdoor Track and Field Championships on Thursday. Through two scored events, the women's team is currently sitting in second place while the men's squad is in third.
Junior Daiwa Emmert (Bolivar, Mo.) completed the final three events of the heptathlon for an overall finish of fourth place with a school record 4,699 points. In the long jump, she leapt to a personal best mark of 5.63 meters. Emmert also recorded a personal best in the 800-meter dash, clocking in a time of 2:35.58.
Zane Lockhart (Plattsmouth, Neb.) battled in the final half of the decathlon, placing sixth overall with a personal best 6,157 points. With this finish, the junior moved into UMKC's top-five all-time performance list in the multi event. Lockhart set a personal best in the pole vault after clearing 4.00 meters. He also tallied a personal best throw of 31.18 meters in the discus.
UMKC returned to the track Thursday evening for the men's and women's 10,000-meter run. Quinlan Moll (Springfield, Mo.) led the Roos on the men's side, finishing fourth with a time of 32:28.31. Teammates Jason Fambrough (Raymore, Mo.) and Nathan Keown (Columbia, Mo.) finished closely behind Moll, crossing the line fifth and sixth, respectively.
For the first time this season, Chandler Carreon (Lake St. Louis, Mo.), Mia Jerman (St. Genevieve, Mo.) and Megan Mills (Nixa, Mo.) participated in the 10,000-meter run. Carreon captured UMKC's first gold medal of the championships, clocking in a winning time of 37:21.71. Jerman and Mills finished sixth and 11th, respectively, in the event.
The Roos will continue the WAC Outdoor Track and Field Championships on Friday beginning with the men's hammer throw at 11 a.m. CT. Running events for UMKC will start at 3:30 p.m. CT with the men's 1,500-meter run preliminaries.
