KANSAS CITY, Mo. – The UMKC track & field teams opened up the 2018 WAC Outdoor Track & Field Championships in Lawrence, Kan., with the women’s heptathlon and the men’s decathlon at Rock Chalk Park.
Daiwa Emmert paced the Roos for the women, as she sits second with 2,809 points, less than 100 off the lead. She opened the day with a 14.94 in the 100 meter hurdles, good for third and 850 points and a mark of 1.57m in the high jump, good for third and 701 points. In the shot put, she registered the top throw at 10.43m, earning her 558 points, while her time of 27.14 in the 200 meter dash was fourth best and earned her 700 points.
Gabriel Foster, meanwhile, sits fifth in the event after finishing fourth in the 100 meter hurdles (15.15 – 822 pts.), second in the high jump (1.60m – 736 pts.) and shot put (10.07m – 534 pts.) and sixth in the 200 meter run (28.25 – 611).
For the men, Zane Lockhart is fifth after five events with 3,158 points. Lockhart posted 730 points in the 100 meter dash (11.61 – 4th), 720 in the long jump (6.60m – 1st), 491 in the shot put (10.09m – 5th), 636 in the high jump (1.81m – 4th) and 581 in the 400 meter dash (55.44 – 5th).
The Blue & Gold will be back in action again tomorrow at Rock Chalk Park in Lawrence for day two of the WAC Outdoor Track & Field Championships with the multis wrapping-up competition starting at 11:15 a.m. CT and the 10,000 meter runs starting at 8 p.m. CT.
