Roos Look to Defend Titles at WAC Championships

KANSAS CITY, Mo. – The UMKC track & field teams will look to make it back-to-back titles when they head to Lawrence, Kan., for the 2018 WAC Outdoor Track & Field Championships at Rock Chalk Park on May 9-12.

The event kicks-off on Wednesday with the women’s heptathlon and men’s decathlon, while the multi-events wrap-up on Thursday, along with the 10,000 meter run.

On Friday, the field events kick-off with the men’s hammer throw at 11 a.m. CT and conclude with the men’s discus at 4 p.m. CT and the track events start at 3 p.m. CT with the 110 meter hurdles and conclude with the 3,000 meter steeplechase at 6:20 p.m. CT.

The championships wrap-up on Saturday with the women’s hammer throw starting field events at 11 a.m. CT and the women’s discus concluding them at 4 p.m. CT.

Saturday’s track events are bookended by the relays, as the 4x100 meter relays start at 5 p.m. CT and end at 8:10 p.m. CT with the 4x400 meter relays.

Last Time Out: The UMKC track & field teams picked up four titles on Saturday afternoon in the Nebraska Invitational at Ed Weir Stadium in Lincoln, Neb.

Christopher Bryan led the way, winning the long jump with a mark of 5.39m, while finishing second in the 110m hurdles in a time of 14.48, the third best time in the WAC this season.

Jeremy Harr picked up the Roos second title with a mark of 14.10m in the triple jump, while Darrien Case won the 1,500m run with a time of 3:53.24.  The Roos fourth title, meanwhile, came from Carter Grissom in the javelin with a throw of 64.23m, ranking as the second best throw in school history and the second best throw in the WAC this season.

Up Next: The Blue & Gold will be back in action when they host the WAC Outdoor Track and Field Championships at Rock Chalk Park in Lawrence, Kan., on May 9-12.
