AUSTIN, TexasBlake Hocking (Lawrence, Kan.) and Richard Smith (Kansas City, Mo.) wrapped up the 2017 outdoor season for UMKC at the NCAA Division I Outdoor Track and Field West Preliminary Round on Saturday.  

For the third time this season, Hocking broke the men's discus school record after throwing 53.49 meters on his first attempt. The senior's mark placed him 27th overall in the field of 48 competitors.

Notching a personal best in the men's triple jump, Smith leapt 15.43 meters to finish 25th overall. Smith will leave his mark in UMKC program history, as his performance now ranks the senior second all-time in the event.
