Lockhart, Emmert in Good Position After Day One of Kansas Relays

LAWRENCE, Kan.Zane Lockhart (Plattsmouth, Neb.) and Daiwa Emmert (Bolivar, Mo.) opened the 90th installment of the Kansas Relays on Wednesday with five events of the decathlon and four events of the heptathlon, respectively.

Lockhart recorded season best performances in the long jump and the shot put with marks of 6.89 meters and 10.97 meters, respectively. Each mark in these events is a personal record for the junior. After five scored events, Lockhart currently sits in ninth place with 3,305 points. Decathlon events will conclude on Thursday with the 110-meter hurdles, discus, pole vault and javelin.

Emmert has made her way onto UMKC’s top-five all-time performers list in the high jump after clearing 1.65 meters in the event. The junior darted to a personal best time of 14.80 seconds in the 100-meter hurdles, before throwing a personal best mark of 10.38 meters in the shot put. Emmert is sitting in fourth place through four scored events with 2,960 points and will conclude the heptathlon with the long jump, javelin and 800-meter run on Thursday.

Six men’s field events and four women’s field events, as well as five distance events for both squads, will also be featured on Thursday.
