KANSAS CITY, Mo. – The UMKC men’s soccer team will host Rockhurst for its final exhibition tune-up on Sunday. Kickoff between the Roos and the Hawks is schedule for 5 p.m. CT with a pre-game block party for UMKC students starting at 4 p.m. CT.
About the Roos
The Roos return 11 starters in the fall to a roster that features three seniors – Chris Betancourt (Weston, Fla.), Eric McWoods (St. Louis, Mo.) and Eddie Howe (St. Louis, Mo.). The 2017 season marks the 20th under the direction of Rick Benben. UMKC boasts a 33-24-4 (.574) record at its home facility and will play the most home matches in a single season at Durwood Soccer Stadium, hosting 11 opponents this season. The Roos opened the preseason with a 3-0 decision at Saint Louis last weekend, as McWoods netted two goals for UMKC.
About the Hawks
The Rockhurst men’s soccer team is picked to finish third in the Division II national preseason poll released by the United Soccer Coaches. The Hawks are coming off their third Final Four appearance in four years. Last season, Rockhurst fell 2-1 to Charleston in the national semifinals and finished the year with an 18-3-3 record. Head coach Tony Tocco has spent his entire 46 years in coaching at Rockhurst.
UMKC will begin the regular season at Central Arkansas on Aug. 25 at 8:30 p.m. CT, before returning to Durwood Soccer Stadium for its longest home stand of the season on Aug. 27.
