SAN ANTONIO, Texas – The UMKC men’s soccer team ended their stay in the lone star state with a loss to Incarnate Ward on Sunday evening 3-1.

Riding behind the first start of the season for senior goalkeeper Ryan Tome (Pembroke Pines, Fla.), UMKC was tested early and often throughout the contest against the Cardinals.

At the very beginning of the game, UMKC was able to strike first from the foot of junior defender Antoine Precheur (Paris, France) who did the work all by himself to put the Roos on the board in the seventh minute of play. It would then become a busy day for the defensive unit, as the Roos allowed all three goals from the Cardinals in the first half.

With seven minutes remaining in the first period, Incarnate Ward nailed all three of their goals to solidify the victory against UMKC on Sunday in San Antonio, Texas. Both teams however gave a show for the audience in attendance for the game, as the shot numbers for both teams combined for 33 in total.

Tome would end up being very busy on his own end of the field, facing 19 shots from the Cardinals and saving eight of those for the Roos.

Today’s victory for Incarnate Ward would be the first on the season, as the team originally came into today’s matchup against UMKC with a 0-9-1 record for the 2018 campaign.

Head Coach Rick Benben gave his thoughts on the second road game down south this weekend.

“For the number of injuries we are dealing with, the boys did well today”, stated Benben. “They worked really hard and put out a great effort today.”

Finishing up the road trip in Texas, the Roos will return home before heading back on the road to take on Utah Valley in Orem, Utah on Saturday, Oct. 13 at 8 p.m. CT.
