KANSAS CITY, Mo. – UMKC senior standout Eric McWoods (St. Louis, Mo.) has been named to the United Soccer Coaches NCAA Division I Men’s All-West Region Second Team. It is the first national postseason award for McWoods and the 18th in program history (since 2000) for the Roos.

“This is a well-deserved honor for Eric,” head coach Rick Benben said. “He played at a high level for the entire season and it is fantastic that he has received this recognition.”

McWoods saved his best season for last, as the captain led the team in goals (11), points (25), shots (62) and shots on goal (34), with three game-winning goals to go along with it during the 2017 season. For a single season, McWoods landed himself in the UMKC record book – tying for the third-most in program history in goals, points and shots. For his two-year career, McWoods’ 15 goals are the 11th most by a Roo all time. His first postseason honor was granted by the Western Athletic Conference, as the St. Louis, Mo., native earned a spot on the all-conference first team.

The last Roo to collect All-Region honors was Tanya ‘Tato’ Chiaparro in 2014, earning a spot on the third team. McWoods’ second-team recognition is the highest since John Bayron Sosa was named to the first team in 2010.
