DENVER, Colo. – UMKC men’s soccer goalkeeper Filippo Errico (Verona, Italy) has been given Western Athletic Conference Defensive Player of the Week honors, the league office announced on Monday. The award is the first of his career and second for the Roos this season.
“Filippo had a great day in the net for us against Rutgers yesterday,” commented head coach Rick Benben. “He continues to impress us in every aspect of his game.”
In UMKC’s double overtime scoreless draw against Big Ten opponent Rutgers on Sunday, Errico made a season-high seven saves en route to his third-consecutive shutout. His three shutouts currently ranks in a tie for the sixth-most in a single season by a Roo in UMKC program history. Behind Errico’s efforts in the net, UMKC is only team in the WAC to not give up a goal so far in 2017.
The Roos will close their home stand on Friday, Sept. 8 at 7:30 p.m. CT when Memphis visits Durwood Soccer Stadium.
