Kansas City, Mo. -- Senior Bryan Perez of the UMKC men’s soccer team has been named an NSCAA/Performance Subaru Second Team all-Midwest Region selection, it was announced today by the NSCAA. By earning the all-region honor, Perez becomes the first player in UMKC men’s soccer history to be a three-time all-region selection.
“We are very proud that Bryan has earned this well-deserved honor,” said Head Coach Rick Benben. “Bryan has been an outstanding player and an excellent person for our program throughout his career. We could not ask for a better individual to receive this recognition because Bryan really understands that the only way he could achieve this honor was through hard work and by being an excellent teammate.”
The Miami, Fla., native earned his first all-region nod when he was named to the third team following his sophomore season in 2007 and he was tabbed as a second team all-region honoree in 2008. Perez is also the only ‘Roo player to earn multiple second team all-region honors.
This season, Perez led the Kangaroos and The Summit League with 11 goals and three assists for a total of 25 points. The 11 goals were tied for the second most in a single season, while the 25 points were tied for the third most in UMKC history. As a result of his play, Perez was selected as The Summit League Offensive Player of the Year, while also garnering a first team all-league nod for the third consecutive season. Perez is the only three-time first team all-league selection and the first four-time all-league honoree in school history.
Perez’s play was a key factor in helping the UMKC advance to The Summit League Tournament final for the second straight year in 2009. The title game appearance was his third in his four years with the program. In 2008, the midfielder led UMKC to the league title and NCAA Tournament berth.
Perez closed out his UMKC career with his name scattered prominently in the school record book. He finished as the record holder in goals (29), points (70), shots (160) and games played (78). He is also one of just seven players in school history to score a hat trick, as he accomplished the feat in the 4-3 win over Drake on Sept. 30, 2008.
