KANSAS CITY, Mo. – The UMKC women’s golf team closed out the 2018 season when it finished fifth in the WAC Championship at +48, 900 (298-306-296) at The Legacy Golf Resort in Phoenix, Ariz.
The 296 is tied for the fifth lowest round in school history.
Cynthia Diaz finished with the low score for the Roos, carding a three round 218 (75-71-72) to finish at +5 in fifth place, tied for the third lowest score in school history. Diaz opened the event with a two-birdie round of 75, before coming back on day two with UMKC low round of 71 that featured four birdies, including back-to-back on the par-3 No. 7 and par-5 No. 8. In the final round, the Colombian shot a 72 that featured three birdies on the back nine, with back-to-back on the par-5 No. 14 and par-3 No. 15.
Just missing the top-10 in a tie for 11th was Chandler Gallagher. In her last event in the Blue & Gold, she finished at +8, 221 (72-77-72). Gallagher started off hot, birdieing the par-4 No. 1 in round one and adding two more on Nos. 6 and 7 to sit at -3, eight holes in. In round two, she added her fourth birdie of the event on No. 8, while her final round 72 included a birdie on the par-4 No. 3.
Victoria Pavlik was the Roos next best finisher in 27th at +18, 231 (74-82-75). Like Gallagher, Pavlik opened the event with a birdie on No. 1, before adding two more on Nos. 8 and 10. In round two, she added a fourth birdie on No. 5, while closing the event with a two birdie final round.
Maria Henao and Celine Lim, meanwhile, tied for 30th in their last UMKC event. Henao shot rounds of 77-76-83 with a pair of opening round birdies, while Lim finished with rounds of 77-82-77 that included a single birdie in each of the first two rounds and two more in round three.
