KANSAS CITY, Mo. – The UMKC women’s golf team ended their Fall 2018 season with an eighth place finish this week at the Little Rock Women’s Classic.
It was a great showing by all the players who took their best shot at claiming a top 10 finish at Diamante Country Club. Head Coach Brianna Broderick’s team put together a quality outing on the course this week and will carry some of that momentum when spring play begins.
Newcomers have been the talk of this women’s team so far in 2018 and the talk continues after a great showing once again from freshman phenom Theresa de Bochdanovits (Kist, Germany) and sophomore player Caroline Klemp (Lansing, Kan.). Klemp has continued to play at a high level since last week’s FIU Pat Bradley Invitational and it showed on the greens this week as she recorded a score of 227 (+11), which put her in a tie for 16th place.
Bochdanovits has provided excitement for what is to come at UMKC as she ended her week with a tied for 25th performance. The Kist, Germany native ended her week with a score of 229 (+13), keeping her in the middle of a tough leaderboard through Tuesday.
Going down the order, senior leader Cynthia Diaz (Bucaramanga, Colombia) provided another quality outing at Diamante Country Club as she fired a score of 230 (+14), keeping pace with her counterparts for the week. Diaz finished one under par on Par 5 holes, placing her in the top 10 for that category.
Freshman player Megan Lucas (Topeka, Kan.) gave the Roos some nice outings on the greens as well, nailing seven birdies on the tournament, which topped everyone else in the lineup this week at Diamante Country Club.
Preparing for spring play which will include the WAC conference tournament, the Roos gained valuable experience with the team featuring four freshman and two sophomores this fall.
Finishing up the Little Rock Classic, the Roos now have completed their fall season and will take a break before competing in the spring at the Rio Verde Collegiate Invitational on Friday, Feb. 22nd through Sunday, Feb. 24th in Rio Verde, Ariz.
