MISSION HILLS, Kan. – UMKC women’s golf sits in second place and is seven shots back after the second round of the Western Athletic Conference Championship Thursday at Indian Hills Country Club. The Roos shot a collective 310 (+30) in the middle round. Cynthia Diaz (Bucaramanga, Colombia) is in fourth place individually, three strokes back at 9-over par.
“We were tested today on and around the greens,” head coach Brianna Broderick said. “We are excited about tomorrow’s round. At seven shots back, we have given ourselves the opportunity to compete for the championship.”
Diaz shot 76 (+6) with two birdies in a 5-hole stretch on the front nine. Chandler Gallagher (Kansas City, Mo.) also carded a 76 (+6) with a birdie on the 18th hole and is tied for 14th place. Cyrielle Kern (Cuvry, France) is also tied for 14th after shooting 78 (+8). Abbey Campbell (Garden City, Kan.) registered an 81 (+11) and is tied for 20th. Mackenzie Black (Independence, Iowa) notched an 80 (+10) and is one stroke behind Campbell.
New Mexico State leads the team standings at 46-over par. UMKC is two shots ahead of third-place Seattle U, who is 55-over for the tournament. Utah Valley’s Ana Margarita Raga, Suthavee Chanachai of NM State and Deanna Salvatori from Grand Canyon are all tied for the individual lead.
Friday’s final round begins at 8 a.m. CT.
