KANSAS CITY, Mo. – UMKC Director of Athletics Carla Wilson will serve as the 3rd Vice President of the Division I-AAA Athletics Director Association (DI-AAA ADA) in 2017-18, as announced by the organization last week. Wilson will succeed through to the role of President with the organization in 2020-21.

“I am honored to be chosen by my peers to serve as the 3rd Vice President for the DI-AAA Athletics Directors Association,” commented Wilson. “To serve on the Executive Committee in a leadership role for an organization that puts the needs and welfare of the student-athlete first is both humbling and rewarding.”

Now in its 17th year, the Division I-AAA Athletics Directors Association's mission is to enhance initiatives common to its Division I-AAA membership (the Division I institutions that do not sponsor football), in particular, aspects related to their flagship basketball programs. The Division I-AAA ADA is administered by the National Association of Collegiate Directors of Athletics (NACDA), which is in its 53rd year.

In the 2016-17 year, the Roos garnered five Western Athletics Conference Championships (Men’s Cross Country, Women’s Tennis, Men’s Tennis, Women’s Outdoor Track & Field, Men’s Outdoor Track and Field), five second-place finishes, and two third-place finishes. An overall second-place finish in the WAC Commissioners Cup standings marks the highest finish for the program.

Academically, the Roos posted a school record cumulative grade point average of 3.34 for the 2016-17 academic year. Fifteen of UMKC’s 16 programs had a cumulative GPA of 3.0 or greater, with the women’s cross country team leading the way with a 3.55 GPA. A total of 122 student-athletes earned All-WAC academic honors, while 92 scholar athletes boasted a 3.5 or higher in their studies. The year culminated with 52 graduates, an 87% graduation success rate and a school-record APR of 982.

Wilson is an active member of Women Leaders in College Sports, NACDA, the NCAA Division I Council and the Minority Opportunities Athletic Association, where she chairs the Education and Professional Development Committee. In the Kansas City community, Wilson serves on various boards at different organizations, including the Fellowship of Christian Athletes, the Boys and Girls Club of Greater Kansas City Sports Lab Advisory Board, WIN for KC and the Chancellor’s Advisory Board for the UMKC Women’s Center.
