KANSAS CITY, Mo. – The UMKC volleyball team (7-4) dropped a 3-0 contest to Big 12 foe Kansas State (9-1) on Tuesday night at the Swinney Recreation Center.
In the opening set, the Roos led early, 3-2, after a kill from Brooke Jacobs and were tied at 6-6 on a kill from Alex Ratzlaff. UMKC would hang to within three, including trailing by just one late at 19-18 after a Harrington kill, but K-State came away with the 25-20 first set win.
In the second set, UMKC built a 5-1 lead, six points in, getting two kills from Tyrecia Lukes and one from Harrington during the rally. The Wildcats, however, would fight back to claim the lead before taking the set 25-16.
Kansas State then closed out the match in the third set with a 25-22 victory. The Roos stayed close throughout the set, leading late at 18-17. The Wildcats, though, were too much for Kansas City as they scored eight of the final 12 points to come away with the win.
The Blue & Gold will be back in action again on Friday at 6 p.m. CT to take on Saint Louis in St. Louis, Mo.
