UMKC Concludes Final Day of Graduate Classic

LINCOLN, Neb. – The UMKC men’s and women’s track and field teams concluded the two-day Graduate Classic, hosted by the University of Nebraska, on Saturday evening.

In the 60-meter hurdles preliminary event, Christopher Bryan and Jada Steele finished sixth and eighth, respectively, after qualifying Friday night. Bryan went on to finish sixth in the finals with a time of 8.36 seconds, while Steele clocked in a time of 9.29 seconds.

Tia Thompson finished fourth in the women’s 400-meter dash with a personal best time of 58.12 seconds. She returned to the track with several teammates for the 200-meter dash, where the sophomore finished in a personal best 26.48 seconds. Senior Genel Rollins finished sixth in the event to pace the Roos with a time of 25.91 seconds. Louisa Nylander also clocked in a personal best in the event, crossing the line in 26.50 seconds.

In the field on the women’s side, pole vault specialist Christy Nell cleared 3.35 meters to finish fourth overall in the seeded section of the event. Shermane Foster leapt to an eighth-place finish in the triple jump, while Matia Finley captured a top-10 performance in the shot put.

Jamarice Preston darted to a fourth-place finish in the men’s 400-meter dash, clocking in a time of 50.02 seconds, while teammate Jacquez Perry finished sixth with a time of 50.63 seconds. Junior Chadayne Walker just missed the finals in the 60-meter dash after turning in a preliminary time of 7.04 seconds. In the 800-meter run, Darrien Case crossed the line seventh in 1:22.19 to represent UMKC in the event.

In the field, Lukas Van Der Watt cleared 4.91 meters in the seeded pole vault event to match a season-best and finish second overall in the event. Thrower Jacob Hockman was 0.03 meters from a personal best in the shot put, after tossing 14.55 meters.

UMKC will venture to Lawrence on Jan 25-26 for the Jayhawk Classic, hosted by the University of Kansas.
