KANSAS CITY, Mo. – The University of Missouri-Kansas City has initiated a national search for a new Athletics Director.

The advertisement for the position states that UMKC seeks “a visionary leader who is innovative, engaged and experienced to direct their NCAA Division 1 athletic department.” It notes that UMKC is a member of the Western Athletic Conference and competes in 16 intercollegiate men’s and women’s sports. The university is seeking an individual who can present “a clear vision that will ensure the athletic department has a competitive advantage in fundraising, facilities development and in the recruitment, retention and promotion of student-athletes and athletic personnel” as well as increase visibility, exposure and season ticket sales for all sports.

Chancellor C. Mauli Agrawal, Ph.D., has named a Search Committee which includes:

  • Curtis Crespino, UMKC Vice Chancellor for Advancement, Co-Chair
  • Gary Forsee, former president of the University of Missouri System, Co-Chair
  • Stephen Dilks, Chair, UMKC Faculty Senate
  • Lexie Howard, Women’s Soccer, Student Athlete Representative
  • Trish Marken, UMKC Faculty Representative
  • Danielle Martinez, UMKC Staff Council Representative
  • Shameika McField, Track and Field, Coaching Staff Representative
  • Kathy Nelson, President and CEO, Kansas City Sports Commission, Community Representative

“My thanks to the members of the search committee for their willingness to serve UMKC.  This is an exciting opportunity and I am looking forward to recruiting the next leader of Roo Athletics,” Agrawal said. “Athletics is an important asset to UMKC and it is essential we identify a progressive leader to grow our foundation of academic and athletic excellence. Our campus and community are ideally positioned for Roo Athletics to achieve great successes going forward.”
