SPRINGFIELD, Mo. – The UMKC women’s golf team concluded their stay in Springfield, Mo. with an 11th place finish at the MSU-Payne Stewart Memorial on Tuesday.

Many teams brought their best game to the course, with the top three teams (Memphis, UTEP and Murray State) shooting scores of 860, 873 and 886 respectively for their groups.

UMKC held their ground throughout the tournament with senior player Cynthia Diaz (Bucaramanga, Colombia) firing a score of 219 (+6) overall at Twin Oaks Country Club, vaulting her into a tie for eighth place. Diaz had her best score in round three, when she shot a team-low 70 (-1) to end her day on Tuesday.

Another surprise performer for the Roos has been newcomer Caroline Klemp (Lansing, Kan.), who shot 230 (+17) for the tournament and a 74 (+3) overall in the first round of play. Last week, Klemp made her mark in the UNO Invitational, scoring 241 for the tournament and shooting another 74 (+2), with that one coming in the third round of play.

Freshman player Theresa de Bochdanovits (Kitz, Germany) got into the mix for the Roos, as she posted a score of 225 (+12) for the tournament. Bochdanovits best scores came in the last two rounds, where she recorded scores of 74 (+3) before leaving Twin Oaks.

With the completion of the MSU-Payne Stewart Memorial, the Roos will travel back north to participate in the Johnie Imes Invitational, which will take place on Oct. 1-3 at The Club at Old Hawthorne. Last year, UMKC finished in 14th place in Columbia, Mo.
