LAS CRUCES, N.M. – The UMKC volleyball team (5-12, 1-3) fell 3-0 on Saturday afternoon to New Mexico State (10-6, 2-1) at the Pan American Center in Western Athletic Conference play in Las Cruces, N.M.

 “We had moments in game three where we battled,” Head Coach Christi Posey said.  “We'll assess some rotations and work this next week to get better.”

In the match, Rhegan Spiegel (Savannah, Mo.) led the charge defensively with 11 digs, while Alex Ratzlaff (Hillsboro, Kan.) added seven.

New Mexico State quickly built a 1-0 lead with a 25-10 victory in set one, before going up 2-0 with a 25-15 set two win.  The Roos trailed by just one, 11 points in, but the Aggies built the lead to eight midway through.  UMKC would close the gap to as little as five late, but NMSU held on for the 25-15 win.

In the third set, NMSU closed out the match with a 25-19 win despite the Roos trailing by just two 12 points in.

Offensively, Alicia Harrington (Cedar Falls, Iowa) finished with six kills and Mykal Sadler (Des Moines, Iowa) and Mikayla Martinez (Frederick, Colo.) tallied four each.

The Blue & Gold will be back in action again on Friday when they return to Kansas City for a WAC matchup with Chicago State at 5 p.m. on Friday at the Swinney Recreation Center.
