Kansas City, Mo. -- UMKC dropped a 3-0 battle to Creighton on Sunday night in the first regular season game at Durwood Soccer Stadium and Recreational Field. Jami Finnell was in net for the Kangaroos and recorded 10 saves on the night and Ariel Rank recorded two shots on goal. UMKC falls to 0-2 on the season and Creighton improves 3-0-1 on the year.
The Creighton offense was led by Kyla Hoskins, who finished with two goals on the night. Hoskins struck first in the 13th minute following a Finnell save, to put the Bluejays up 1-0. The Kangaroos were able to hold Creighton scoreless for the remainder of the half and log two shots on goal.
UMKC was caught sleeping in the second half as Creighton was able to put two past the defense. Hoskins collected her second goal of the night with an assist from Beth Fyles and then just 26 seconds later Fyles dribbled down the field and slid one past Finnell in the lower left corner.
The Kangaroos played in front of 523 fans in the first official regular season game at DSSRF.
UMKC hits the road for its next two games and will take part in the Panther Invitational. The Kangaroos take on Northern Iowa on Fri., Sept. 4 at 7:30 p.m. and will then face Southeast Missouri State on Sun., Sept. 6 at noon.
