KANSAS CITY, MO. – The UMKC women’s soccer team is excited to announce a highly competitive spring schedule in anticipation of another championship caliber season in 2019. Coming off a 2018 season in which the Roos won their second-straight Western Athletic Conference (WAC) Championship, and third overall in the last five years, the UMKC coaching staff has assembled a five-game spring schedule against high-quality opponents in an effort to prepare a Roos team that lost six seniors this past season.

“Associate Head Coach, Jeff Cole, and I are thrilled to announce our extremely fun and competitive spring schedule,” said UMKC head coach Chris Cissell. “Coming off another championship season this fall, we felt like it was imperative to put together a very challenging schedule to help our team and players continue to build, grow and develop.”

The Roos spring schedule is set to get underway on March 16th when UMKC will travel to the University of Nebraska-Omaha to take on the Mavericks. After a three week layoff, the Roos will then head back to Omaha, Neb., for a matchup with South Dakota State University on April 7th. The following weekend, coach Cissell and the Roos will return home for the only spring match at Durwood as they take on the Iowa Hawkeyes at Noon on Saturday, April 13th. The next afternoon, UMKC will travel to Springfield, Mo., for a matchup with Missouri State at 5:00 PM. Rounding out the spring schedule, the Roos will take a trip down I-70 to Lawrence, Kan., to take on the University of Kansas Jayhawks on April 24th at 8:00 PM.

Speaking to the strength of the 2019 spring schedule, coach Cissell stated, “we are excited to challenge ourselves against the likes of other great Universities and soccer programs such as Iowa University, University of Kansas, Missouri State University, South Dakota State University and the University of Nebraska – Omaha. The spring season is an excellent opportunity for all of our players to showcase their talents and abilities and for us to continue to grow and develop as a coaching staff and an entire Soccer Family.”

The 2018 fall season was a memorable one with a school record for wins at 16-5-0 overall. The Roos were ranked in the NCAA Regional rankings for the first time in history, with a No. 8 position in the pacific region. There were six players recognized on the All-WAC team, including five on the All-WAC First Team. The five first-teamers is the highest amount in league history.
