KANSAS CITY, Mo. – The United Soccer Coaches announced Thursday morning that the UMKC women’s soccer team was among the schools who earned the Academic Team Award for the 2016-17 school year. The accomplishment marks the seventh consecutive year that the Roos women’s soccer team has been honored with the award.
United Soccer Coaches annually celebrates the academic achievements of high school and college soccer teams whose student-athletes collectively demonstrate a commitment to excellence in their studies over the course of a full school year.
College Team Academic Award recipients are active members of the United Soccer Coaches College Services Program with a composite grade point of average of 3.0 or better on a 4.0 scale for all players on the roster during that academic school year.
“I am extremely proud of our student athletes for being able to earn this outstanding award,” commented head coach Chris Cissell. “Earning this recognition for a seventh straight year speaks volumes about how much our team values success on the field and even more importantly in the classroom.”
The Roos are back return to competition this weekend with a pair of home matches to open Western Athletic Conference play. The team will square off against Utah Valley on Friday, Oct. 6 at 7:30 p.m. CT before hosting Seattle U on Sunday, Oct. 8 at 1 p.m. CT.
Single game tickets for Friday’s and Sunday’s contests are available for fans to purchase in advance by visiting the team’s website or calling 844-UMKC-FAN. Can’t make it to the game? Learn how you can still help support the UMKC women’s soccer team.
