DENVER, Colo. – UMKC women’s soccer forward Lexie Howard (Kearney, Mo.) has been named the Western Athletic Conference Offensive Player of the Week by the league office on Monday. It is the second time she has received the honor this season.

“I’m extremely proud of Lexie and the entire team in how well they played this weekend”, commented head coach Chris Cissell. “We had a great week of training that led to a great weekend of games and results. Lexie was superb, scoring three goals and adding an assist, but she would be the first to tell you that the team earned this great honor.”

Howard was electric for the Roos in wins over Missouri State and South Dakota. In Friday’s contest against Missouri State, the junior forward was able to strike for two goals against the Bears. The two scores came on a perfect shooting percentage and just 43 minutes of play.

Howard played a major role in Sunday’s match with South Dakota as well. The junior forward made her presence felt early with what would be the game-winning goal at the 2:51 mark. She later piled on to her impressive weekend stat line with an assist, giving her points in both goals scored in the contest.

Over the weekend, Howard recorded three goals and one assist in a combined 122 minutes of action. She was credited with seven shots and five shots on goal in the two weekend victories. Howard leads the Roos with six goals this season and now sits atop the WAC leaderboard in points with 15.

The Roos will wrap up nonconference play with road matches against Illinois State on Friday, Sep. 29 at 7 p.m. CT and Indiana State on Sunday, Oct. 1 at 1 p.m. CT.
