KANSAS CITY, Mo. – UMKC women’s soccer forward Rylan Childers (Grain Valley, Mo.) was recognized for her strong 2018 season performance on Tuesday in being selected as a Second Team Freshman All-American by Top Drawer Soccer.
The honor adds to a growing list of accomplishments for Childers following the completion of her first season at UMKC. Previously, the freshman forward was selected as the Western Athletic Conference (WAC) Freshman of the Year in addition to the All-WAC First Team by the league’s coaches. Childers was also one of four Roos to be honored with a postseason award by the United Soccer Coaches, landing on the All-Region Second Team.
Childers proved to be one of the most dynamic offensive weapons for the Roos in 2018, who captured their second-consecutive WAC regular season championship and finished in the top-15 of the entire NCAA with 51 goals scored. Childers matched teammate Kelsey Mothershead (Smithville, Mo.) with a conference-leading 11 goals on the season while also leading the WAC and ranking inside the NCAA top-10 with 14 assists and 36 points.
The freshman sensation was at her best during conference play, recording conference-highs in goals (7) and assists (9) as she played a pivotal role in securing the WAC regular season championship. Childers will look to build on what was a fantastic freshman campaign after setting single season program records in points and assists in 2018.
