KANSAS CITY, Mo. – The National Soccer Coaches Association of America announced the 2016 Division I Women’s Soccer All-Region teams, and UMKC sophomore forward Kelsey Mothershead (Smithville, Mo.) was named to the All-West Region Third-Team.
Mothershead totaled a team-high 16 points in 21 games for the Roos, including seven goals and two assists. The All-Region honor adds to her list of awards this season, after being named an All-WAC First-Team selection.
“I am very happy and proud of Kelsey,” head coach Chris Cissell said. “She had a fantastic season, leading our team in goals and earning All-WAC honors. This All-Region selection is very deserved for her.”
The honor marks the fourth-straight year that a UMKC player earned an All-Region nod, after Reighan Childers (Grain Valley, Mo.) earned a third-team selection last season, Nina Tzianos was named to the third-team in 2014, and Taylor Bare was the first-ever Roo to be named to an All-Region team in 2013.
“We are very proud of our great soccer family and program,” Cissell said. “For this to be the fourth-straight year of getting an All-Region honor shows that the hard work is paying off and makes us excited for things to come.”
The women’s soccer team finished 8-10-4 on the season, making it to the WAC Tournament Championship where they fell to Seattle U 2-1.
