Student-Athletes Awarded with Vice Chancellorís Recipient Honors

Aubrey Frederking and Megan Ussary were awarded today with one of the most prestigious awards given out to graduating seniors at UMKC - the Vice Chancellor's Honor Recipient Award. At the annual breakfast the two student-athletes were among sixteen graduates honored. The recognition, presented by the Vice Chancellor for Student Affairs and Enrollment Management Mel Tyler, honors the truly unique students who maintain high scholastic performance while actively participating in University and community activities outside the classroom.

Frederking, a Cross Country and Track and Field student-athlete, is graduating Cum Laude from the School of Nursing. During her four years at UMKC she excelled in the classroom, earning a near perfect GPA. She was a four time Scholar-Athlete and was named several times to the Summit League Academic all-League Team, Distinguished Scholar Team, and Commissioner's List of Academic Excellence. In her junior year she was awarded the department honor of the Circle of Champion's Award for the best overall female student-athlete.  On the field she has also excelled earning Second Team all-Summit League honors in 2010, and currently holds the school record in the 1500 meters and medley relay. In addition to her work in the classroom and on the field, she has been a tireless volunteer in the community and on campus. She is a member of three honors societies including: Omicron Delta Kappa, Mortar Board and Sigma Theta Tau International. She is also part of the Student Nurses' Association and serves as a senior buddy.  She has given back to the community by volunteering for Harvesters, C.W. Parker Carousel Museum, Boy Scouts, Ozanam, Children's TLC Pumpkin Patch at Crown Center, and the "Reading is Leading" project with Mortar Board.  

Megan Ussary, a Softball student-athlete, is graduating Cum Laude with a degree in Early Childhood Education from the UMKC School of Education. As a dedicated student-athlete, she has placed academics at the center of her time at UMKC. She has been named a Scholar-Athlete, NFCA all-American Scholar-Athlete, and earned the honors of Summit League Academic all-League, Distinguished Scholar and has been placed on the Commissioner's List of Academic Excellence. On the field she also has many accomplishments, in 2011 she was twice named Summit League player of the week, ranked 92nd in the nation for triples, and ranks third in UMKC history for single stolen bases in a season. She was a member of the 2011 softball team who were crowned regular season Summit League Champions. Megan has also given back to her community, volunteering for WIN for KC's Camp WIN, collected donations for Harvesters, reading to those in need within Kansas City's local school districts, Relay for Life, donating clothing supplies for those in need, and organizing a blood drive for fallen teammate Rashonda Stanley.

UMKC Athletics is proud of Megan and Aubrey and wish them much success.
