Audrey Thrasher, junior on the UMKC Women’s Basketball Team, took charge when she was put in front of a chance to study abroad in London and Paris.  From May 22 to June 1, Thrasher studied in London through the UMKC and Bloch School study abroad program.

Thrasher got to see much of London while gaining three hours of credit for International Management at the Bloch School of Business here at UMKC.  Her days consisted of business meetings in the mornings and free time in the afternoons to explore London.  The UMKC students were able to meet with companies such as Cerner, Lockton and State Street, learning from executives about hiring, travel and work in a foreign country.  Her favorite activity in London was “touring the Parliament because the guide did an outstanding job at pointing out all of the historical details”.  One of the hardest things for Thrasher to adapt to in London was using underground transportation and planning bus routes because they could not use GPS.

While in Paris, she “had the opportunity to take a cooking class with a chef who attended Le Cordon Bleu. We also toured the Notre Dame and were able to attend the qualifying rounds at Roland Garros for the French Open.”

Thrasher plans on going on another study abroad trip to Spain while getting her MBA in a couple of years.  Of the whole experience, she says, “I think this study abroad trip taught me so much more than I could ever learn in a classroom!”
