In the top of the third with two on and no outs, game tied at one, outfielder/pitcher Emily Ott (1-0) RBI-singled up the middle as infielder Megan Ussary and outfielder Anna Sokoilk scored after an error by the Wolverines. Next up, infielder Marlee Maples RBI-tripled to right as Ott scored to make it a 5-1 ball game.
Later in the inning for Utah Valley with the bases loaded and two outs, infielder Amanda Perez RBI-singled up the middle as two runs scored to cut the Kangaroo lead to two. Next up, infielder Krystin Jachim RBI-singled to left-center as infielder Amanda Robinson scored from second to close the gap to one.
In the fourth with the bases loaded and with one out for Utah Valley, pitcher Cinda Ramos (8-6) walked infielder Kelli Smart as infielder Maddy Schultz scored to tie the game at five. Next up, Robinson reached first on an error by UMKC as a runner scored to give the Wolverines a 6-5 lead.
Later in the inning with two on and two outs after Utah Valley increased its lead to two, Perez RBI-doubled to center as Robinson scored to make it an 8-5 ball game. UMKC head coach Meredith Smith then replaced Ramos with Ott, who earlier in game one recorded her first win of the season. The Wolverines would score one more run to increase their lead to four going into the fifth.
In the sixth with Utah Valley still leading 9-5, the Kangaroos made it a three-run game when outfielder Megan Vicino RBI-doubled to left and would later advance to third on the throw as pinch runner Bri Wyatt scored from first. Next up, infielder Kaelene Curry grounded out to second, but Vicino scored to cut the lead to two.
In the bottom half of the inning, the Wolverines pushed their lead back to three when outfielder Kylee Brinkerhoff RBI-doubled to left-center as pinch runner Kelli Fox scored from third for the final run of the game.
The Blue & Gold will closeout its seven-game road trip in the state of Utah against conference foe Southern Utah on Friday (1 p.m. and 3 p.m.) and Saturday (1 p.m.).
