Ayabei Notches Back-to-Back Summit League Male Cross Country Athlete of the Week Honors

(Kansas City, Mo.) - Tuesday, senior Cosmas Ayabei earned his second Summit League Male Cross Country Athlete of the Week award of the season to bring his total to four over his illustrious career as a Kangaroo.

To garner the award, Ayabei finished with a league-best 24:08 to place second out of 278 at the NCAA Pre-Nationals Invitational (Oct. 13) for his fastest time of the year in an 8K race. Also, it was the second best in an 8K competition in team history as he now holds six of the top 10 performances.

On Oct. 2, the Kenya native notched his third-career league male cross country athlete of the week award after finishing second (24:31) out of 143 in an 8K race at the Notre Dame Invitational (Sept. 28) to lead his team to a sixth place finish.

Coming up, Ayabei and the rest of the UMKC cross country program will head to Rochester, Mich. on Oct. 27 for The Summit League Championships. Times and location have yet to be announced.
