In the opening set, the 'Roos fell behind by as many as six at 10-4, but a 9-0 rally, with junior Ella Meier serving, put UMKC in front for the first time at 13-10.  The Thunderbirds then closed to within two on the next play, but the Kangaroos scored 12 of the final 18 points, featuring four Knoche kills, to take a 1-0 lead in the match.

In the second set, the 'Roos extended their lead to 2-0 with a 25-15 win.  The two teams traded points early, with UMKC holding a 5-4 lead nine points in.  The Kangaroos then scored the next three points to push the lead to four at 8-4.  Southern Utah would pull to within two at 13-11, but a 12-4 run, including kills from Knoche, Beck, senior Demetria Williams and Lucas, gave the Kangaroos a two-set advantage at intermission.

Coming out the break, SUU cut the UMKC lead in half with a 25-22 third set win, but the Kangaroos closed out the match in the fourth set with a 27-25 win.  In the fourth set, neither team built more than a two-point advantage until Southern Utah built a three point lead late at 21-18.  The Thunderbirds would maintain their three-point lead at 23-20 before an error and a Knoche kill closed the lead to one at 23-22.  Southern Utah then pushed the lead to two and was serving for set point before committing five errors over the final six points of the match give the 'Roos the 3-1 victory.
