The two squads opened up the day with doubles action, where the 'Roos claimed two of the three matches to take the point. Freshman Conner Edwards and sophomore Tomas Patino got the Kangaroos started with an 8-2 win over Jorge Palacios and Tyler Welch, but the No. 1 pairing of juniors Tim Akhmedov and Grant Fleming fell to Domingos Carissimo and Jorge Margiotta, 8-6 to even the doubles matches at 1-1. The 'Roos, though, would claim the point when junior Abdulrahman Alawadhi and sophomore Cameron Schoenhofer were victorious at No. 2 over Kristof Kinal and Daniel Cardona, 8-6.
In singles action, Palacios opened up with a 6-2, 6-1 win over Schoenhofer at No. 4, before Alawadhi fell to Kinal, 6-4, 6-2 to give the Bearcats their first lead of the day. After Heckler's victory then evened the match, SBU again took the lead when Akhmedov was forced to retire against Cardona while trailing 7-6 (7-4), 3-5 from the No. 5 line.
The match then came down to the final two matches, with both going to three sets. At No. 2, Patino fell to Margiotta 2-6, 6-4, 6-4 to give the visitors the match and Fleming was defeated by Carissimo, 6-2, 5-7, 6-1.
