In doubles action, the combination of sophomore Tomas Patino and freshman Conner Edwards were victorious over Henning Jess and Swanson at No. 3, 9-8, while junior Tim Akhmedov and Fleming fell to Felix Goepper and Michael Tenzer, 9-7. Juniors Abdul Alawadhi and David Heckler, meanwhile, lost to Finkenbrink and Cox, 8-6.
In singles play, Tenzer won over Patino at No. 2, 3-6, 7-5, 10-8, and Finkenbrink beat Alawadhi, 6-2, 4-6, 6-3 at No. 3. From the No. 4 line, Cox beat Edwards, 6-1, 6-2, while Akhmedov fell to Christoph Hopfe, 6-2, 6-3. Rounding out the UMKC lineup was Heckler, who fell at No. 6 to Gary Notkin, 6-2, 7-6.
The Blue & Gold will be back in action again on Tuesday when they host Southwest Baptist at the Plaza Tennis Center at 3 p.m.
