(Kansas City, Mo.) - Friday evening, the UMKC track and field program completed day one of the Varsity Apartments Invitational in Wichita, Kan., hosted Wichita State.
In the women's long jump, sophomore Jazmine Cooper placed 13th with a mark of 17-01.50 (5.22) to lead the way for the Blue & Gold in this event.
Also, the 'Roos had two female athletes place in the top 10 in the weight throw as senior's Denise Banda finished third with a mark of 54-01.00 (16.48) and Kimoya Harriott placed sixth with a mark of 51-01.00 (15.57).
On the men's side, Charles Hinton finished third with a personal best mark of 46-00.50 (14.03) in the triple jump.
In the weight throw, junior Ramon Nelson continued his stellar season as he placed first with a personal best mark of 58-01.25 (17.71). This output by the Jamaica native was the third best performance in UMKC indoor track and field history.
At the end of day one, the women placed fourth (10 points) as the men held down the number two slot (20 points).
Day two of the Varsity Apartments Invitational is slated to begin Saturday morning at 9:45 a.m.
