Records Fall For 'Roos At Tulsa Duels

(Kansas City, Mo.)  - UMKC junior Max Carroll and senior Kimoya Harriott each had a historic day on Saturday at the Tulsa Duels, as both broke the school record in the Javelin.

Harriott's throw of 48.43 meters surpassed the old mark by more than three meters and was good enough for a first place finish in the event, while Carroll broke his old record with a mark of 58.23 meters to place fifth in the event and now holds the top three marks in UMKC history.

"I am so happy," Harriott said.  "My goal was to throw 48 meters this year.....I guess I need a new goal."

Shanelle Williams, Kristen Hepburn and Xavier Kenney, meanwhile, each added first place finishes to their resumes with Williams claiming the title in the 100 meter hurdles with a personal best time of 14.70, the fifth fastest time in school history, Hepburn claiming honors in the 110 meter hurdles with a time of 14.92 and Kenney placing first in the 400 meter hurdles at 57.84.

As a team, the 'Roos also claimed the title in the women's 4x100 meter relay with the team of Williams, Jazmine Cooper, Danielle Olive and Chelsea Richardson posting a time of 49.22.

In the long jump, Michelle Momo finished second, posting a new personal best distance at 5.70 meters, the fifth furthest distance in school history while Cooper finished sixthth (5.39m), Richardson finished ninth (4.95m), Jordan Bain finished 11th (4.94 - personal best) and Shavonna Tucker finished 12th (4.87m).

Ramon Nelson, meanwhile, finished fourth in the shot put with a throw of 15.50, the fourth highest mark in UMKC history.

The Kangaroos also had a host of athletes post second place finishes on the day, including Williams in the 400 meter hurdles (1:08.76), Cooper in the triple jump (11.47 - personal best) and 100 meters (12.53), Redell Frazier in the 400 meters (49.26), the team of Sa'Kia Taylor, Viola Kleiser, Briana Carter and Veronica Rollins in the 4x400 meter relay (3:49.77) and the team of Jonathan Barnett, Chandler Hannah, Frazier and Josh Butler in the 4x400 meter relay (3:16.79).

Other 'Roos posting top-five finishes include Richardson in the 100 meters (third - 12.56) and triple jump (fifth - 10.87), Hannah in the 400 meters (third - 49.26), Charles Hinton in the triple jump (third - 13.46) and long jump (fourth - 6.67), Jordan Bain in the triple jump (fourth - 11.01 - personal best), Rollins in the 400 meter hurdles (fourth - 1:09.15), Griffin Humphreys in the 2000 meter steeplechase (fourth - 6:27.86), the team of Richardson, Tucker, Cooper and Bain in the 4x400 meter relay (fourth - 4:31.53), Dontay Taylor in the triple jump (fifth - 12.05), Susan Brueggemann in the shot put (fifth - 12.43) and Forika McDougald II in the 100 meters (fifth - 11.50).

The Blue & Gold will be back in action again on Mar. 23-24 at the MU Relays in Columbia, Mo.
