KANSAS CITY, Mo. – After beginning the 2017-18 season with six consecutive road games, the UMKC women’s basketball team (0-6) will return to Swinney Recreation Center for the first time to host Lincoln University (3-4) and Oral Roberts (3-3).

The Roos will look to start a new chapter in the month of December, as the team was unable to secure a win in facing off with six challenging opponents on the road. The road stretch did not come without its bright spots, as UMKC put together a few impressive second half performances that offer some momentum for the games ahead.

Aries Washington (Kansas City, Mo.) has continued to produce on the offensive end for the Roos, proving to be a reliable scoring option. After putting up 15 points against Kansas, the senior guard leads UMKC with 17 points per game while shooting a team-best 43.7% from the field. Washington has chipped in with 5.5 rebounds and 1.3 assists per game as well.

Kristen Moore (Chicago, Ill.) enters the game coming off her best performance of the season at Kansas. Her 18 points and 10 rebounds, both team-highs in the game, marked her first double-double of the season. On the year, Moore is averaging 13 points per game, which sits second on the team behind Washington, and leads the Roos in bringing down seven rebounds per contest.

UMKC will look to get heat up offensively as they hold a field goal percentage of 31.4% and a three-point percentage of 27.3% as a team through the first six games. Look for the Roos to continue employing a full-court pressure defensively as it has proven to be effective in their recent contests. The team has forced at least 15 opponent turnovers in their last four games.

It has been up and down season thus far Lincoln University, who most recently took home a 67-59 win over Upper Iowa on their home court. The trip to UMKC will serve as an exhibition game for the Blue Tigers, but is part of the regular season schedule for the Roos. Senior guard Citlali Lopez has been the primary offensive weapon for Lincoln, averaging a team-best 11 points and 2.4 assists per game. Lopez has been a threat all over the floor, shooting 41.5% from the field and 43.8% from beyond the arc in addition to her excellent passing. The Blue tigers have been strong on the boards in the early going, outrebounding opponents by an average of seven per game. They have been prone to giving up open looks, allowing opponents to shoot just under 40% from the floor, which could be key for a UMKC team who has struggled getting their shots to fall consistently.
