LAWRENCE, Kan. – The UMKC men’s and women’s cross country teams will travel to the Rim Rock Farm in Lawrence, Kan., on Saturday to kick off the 2017 season at the Bob Timmons Dual Classic.
“We are looking forward to opening the season at Kansas,” commented McField. “It won’t be the traditional team competing, but this will allow a few of our newcomers and returners to dust off any cobwebs. Kansas’ course is challenging, and of course always competitive, so we look forward to both the challenge and the competition.”
“Training has been going really well,” Guemmer added. “We are excited to see what the student-athletes can do during this grind of the early season. This will be a great opportunity for us to see where we fall alongside Kansas.”
The 6-kilometer men’s race will begin at 9 a.m. CT, while the women’s 5-kilometer run will start at approximately 10 a.m. CT.
Returners Daylan Quinn (Mountain View, Mo.), Lachlan Moore (Nixa, Mo.), Darrien Case (Parkville, Mo.) and Jackson Barbour (Shawnee, Kan.) will lead the way for the men’s team, while it will be the first collegiate race for Ryan Parson (Farmington, Mo.) and Josh Sanders (Maryville, Mo.).
On the women’s side, newcomer Katherine Hanners (Jackson, Mo.) will be joined by an experienced Sarah Fogarty (O’Fallon, Mo.), Chandler Carreon (Lake St. Louis, Mo.), Mia Jerman (Ste. Genevieve, Mo.), Elizabeth Nolke (Lee’s Summit, Mo.) and Megan Mills (Nixa, Mo.).
The Roos will return to Lawrence, Kan., on Sept. 30 to compete at the Rim Rock Classic.
