LAWRENCE, Kan. – The UMKC volleyball team will open its 2017 campaign when it heads to Lawrence, Kan., for an exhibition contest against No. 8 Kansas on Saturday. The match between the Roos and the Jayhawks is slated for 1 p.m. CT at the Horejsi Family Athletics Center. Fans that are in attendance for the game will be expected to follow Kansas’ clear bag policy.

UMKC returns to the court for the first time in 2017 after being selected to finish fourth in the WAC by the coaches in the conference’s annual preseason poll. The Roos are led by Preseason All-WAC selection Alicia Harrington (Cedar Falls, Iowa) who tallied 278 kills a year ago, hitting .216, while fellow sophomore Mykal Sadler (Des Moines, Iowa) added 96 kills with a .234 hitting percentage. Head coach Christi Posey, meanwhile, enters her seventh season two wins shy of 100 in her career.
About the Jayhawks
Kansas enters the season as the reigning Big 12 champion as head coach Ray Bechard led the Jayhawks to the program’s first ever title last season. This season, Kansas returns a trio of All-American seniors and Preseason All-Big 12 selections in Kelsie Payne, Ainise Havili and Madison Rigdon, with Payne being selected as the conference’s preseason player of the year.
The Roos will open regular season play when they head to Clarksville, Tenn., to take part in the Culvers Governors Challenge. UMKC begins play on Aug. 25 against Middle Tennessee State at 10 a.m. CT, while taking on host Austin Peay later in the day at 3 p.m. CT. UMKC closes out the tournament on Saturday when they face Marshall at 11:30 a.m. CT.
