SEATTLE, Wash. – UMKC men’s tennis (8-7, 2-1) travels to the Pacific Northwest for Western Athletic Conference matches against New Mexico State on Saturday and Chicago State on Sunday. Both matches begin at 10 a.m. CT and are hosted by Seattle U at the Amy Yee Tennis Center.
The Roos have started strong, going 2-1 in the first conference cluster on March 24-26. UMKC defeated UT Rio Grande Valley and Seattle U and fell to Grand Canyon. NM State leads the WAC standings at 2-0 followed by the Roos and GCU at 2-1.
Airam Castellano (Gran Canaria, Spain), Amaury Navette (Paris, France), Mike Psarros (Athens, Greece) and Vinh Pham (Lenexa, Kan.) are all 2-1 in WAC singles play. Castellano leads the squad with a 10-5 overall record at the No. 1 position. Tom Kruse (Flensburg, Germany) is 7-7 from the No. 4 singles spot while Psarros is 5-4 on the No. 5 court.
Castellano and Psarros are a perfect 3-0 in No. 1 WAC doubles play. The tandem is 7-1 overall at the No. 1 spot this season with four consecutive victories.
UMKC returns to home face Creighton Tuesday at 1 p.m. CT from the Plaza Tennis Center in Kansas City.
