KANSAS CITY, Mo. – UMKC volleyball (13-5, 4-0) looks to stay unbeaten in WAC play when it welcomes in New Mexico State (12-5, 2-2) and UTRGV (12-6, 3-1) to the Swinney Recreation Center this week. The Roos and Aggies will open up the week on Thursday at 7 p.m. CT, while the match with the Vaqueros is set for 1 p.m. CT on Saturday.

UMKC moved to 4-0 in WAC play and 13-5 overall with sweeps of Chicago State and California Baptist. Alex Ratzlaff, a Hillsboro, Kan. native, was named WAC Defensive Player of the Week after she led the WAC with a 6.83 digs per set average as the Ross went 2-0 in WAC play last week. She opened the week with 18 digs and one block in a sweep of Chicago State. Ratzlaff followed it up a career-high 23 digs in another sweep, this time against California Baptist, a team with 11 wins on the season, for a 7.67 digs per set average. She topped 20 digs for the first time this season and the third time in her career. Ratzlaff joins Melanie Brecka and Tyrecia Lukes as honorees this season.
About the Opponents
New Mexico State went 2-0 at home last week to maintain a perfect record at the Pan American Center this season. With the victories, the Aggies extended their winning streak to 18 matches with their last loss coming against then-ranked No. 11 UCLA on Sept. 1, 2017. Against Seattle U, three NM State players posted double-doubles in the 3-1 victory. Briana Ainsworthtallied 22 assists and 19 digs. Battle posted 18 kills and 16 digs while Davison recorded 12 kills and 11 digs. In the sweep of GCU, Hart led the squad with 13 kills and a .706 hitting percentage.
UTRGV enters the weekend with a 3-1 mark in WAC play after winning three straight against California Baptist, Grand Canyon and Seattle. Ragni Steen Knudsen leads the Vaqueros with 199 kills, a .219 hitting percentage and 151 digs. Barbara Silva, meanwhile, has 203 kills and 132 digs.
The Blue & Gold will hit the road for matches at Chicago State on Oct. 11 at 7 p.m. CT and at Seattle on Oct. 13 at 3 p.m. CT.
