MERRIAM, Kan. – The UMKC men’s tennis team (1-3) picked up its first win of the season on Friday afternoon when it swept William Jewell (1-2), 7-0 at the KC Racquet Club.
The Roos cruised to victory, as each of the six players picked up two wins on the afternoon.
From the top spot, No. 115 Airam Castellano (Gran Canaria, Spain) knocked-off Bjorn Myers, 6-1, 6-3 while Alex Pozo (St. Louis, Mo.) took down Cutter Sanders at No. 2, 6-2, 6-1. In doubles action, the duo defeated Myers and Sanders, 6-0.
At No. 2 doubles, Tom Kruse (Flensburg, Germany) and Diego Giraldo beat Hayden Fulk and Thiago Braga, 6-2, with Kruse winning over Fulk at No. 3 singles, 6-2, 6-2 and Giraldo beating Braga at No. 4 singles, 6-0, 6-0.
Daniel Izadifar (Tonsberg, Norway) won his match at No. 5 singles, 6-4, 6-1 over Brian Wohlers and Hunter Clark (Overland Park, Kan.) defeated Marco Martinez at No. 6, 6-1, 6-0. At No. 3 doubles, the UMKC pair beat the Cardinals pair, 6-1.
The Blue & Gold will be back in action again on Feb. 9 when they head to Omaha, Neb., to take on Creighton at 11:30 a.m. CT
