LAS CRUCES, N.M. – The UMKC men’s and women’s cross country teams will lay it all out on the course this Saturday at the 2017 WAC Championships, hosted by New Mexico State, in Las Cruces, New Mexico. The men’s race begins at 10 a.m. CT, while the women’s competition is set for 11 a.m. CT.
“We are looking forward to traveling to New Mexico State,” head coach Shameika McField said. “The conference continually gets more competitive and our expectations have remained the same throughout the season as we have prepared for this meet. We expect very tough competition, but as long as we stay composed, we can be successful.”
The men’s team is projected to finish second behind league favorite Utah Valley at this Saturday’s conference championships. The Roos will look to defend their championship title from a season ago, with returners Bryce Miller, Jason Fambrough, Quinlan Moll, Marcus Johnson, Daylan Quinn, Nathan Keown, Darrien Case and Lachlan Moore leading the way.
“Our men have the greatest amount of depth and could have critical performances from not only senior Bryce Miller, but also seniors Nathan Keown, Quinlan Moll and Jason Fambrough, who have all been great examples and leaders to Marcus Johnson, Daylan Quinn, Darrien Case and Lachlan Moore,” McField continued.
On the women’s side, the Roos were granted one first-place vote and received 33 total points – just a single point behind Seattle U – to fall into the No. 4 slot of the coaches’ pre-championship poll. Six Roos – Sarah Fogarty, Chandler Carreon, Mia Jerman, Katherine Hanners, Megan Mills and Elizabeth Nolke – will look to help UMKC earn its first women’s WAC cross country championship title.
