KANSAS CITY, Mo. – The UMKC volleyball team (7-16, 3-7) fell 3-0 to New Mexico State (16-7, 7-2) in Western Athletic Conference play in their penultimate home match of the season at the Swinney Recreation Center.

Brooke Jacobs (Peoria, Ill.) led the charge for the Roos in the match, tallying a career-high tying 12 kills, hitting .207, while Alli Schomers (Omaha, Neb.) finished with 18 assists, four kills, three digs, three blocks and an ace.  In the back row, Rhegan Spiegel (Savannah, Mo.) finished with a team-best 11 digs.

In the opening set, the Roos held close early, leading 5-4 after a kill from Alex Ratzlaff (Hillsboro, Kan.) and 6-5 on a kill from Jacobs, but NMSU used a 4-1 run leading 11-10 to go up 15-11 at the first timeout.  The Roos kept the margin at four late, but were unable to complete the comeback falling 25-17.

The Roos struck first in the second set on an Aggie error, but NMSU answered with 11 of the next 13 points.  UMKC once again battled back closing the deficit down to two at 17-15 after back-to-back kills from Alicia Harrington (Cedar Falls, Iowa) and a third from Jacobs, but could get no closer as NMSU took a 2-0 lead into the intermission with a 25-20 second set win.

The Aggies then closed out the match in the third set with a 25-17 win.  NMSU scored the first four points of the set, but UMKC would tie the set at 7-7 on back-to-back Jacobs’ kills.  UMKC, however, would be unable to take the lead as NMSU won the match with a 25-17 win in the third set.

For the Roos, Mykal Sadler (Des Moines, Iowa) finished with five blocks, including three solo, and four kills, while Harrington added five kills, six digs, a block and an ace.  Kynnedy Myers (Rose Hill, Kan.), meanwhile, chipped in eight assists and four digs.

The Blue & Gold will be back in action again on Saturday when they welcome in UTRGV to the Swinney Recreation Center on Oct. 28 at 1 p.m. for Senior Day and their annual Think Pink match in memorial of Cynthia Gable.
