LAKEWOOD RANCH, Fla. – The UMKC women’s golf team finished off the Pat Bradley Invitational in seventh position at +36, just seven shots out of third at the Lakewood Ranch Golf & Country Club.

“This was a good finish to our fall season,” Head Coach Brianna Broderick said.  “We spoke all season long about our par-5 scoring and how that needed to improve. The ladies took on the challenge and performed well this week on par-5’s with an average below five.”

Cynthia Diaz (Bucaramanga, Colombia) closed out the event climbing into a tie for third at +3 after rounds of 74 and 71 on day two.  In round two, Diaz tallied a birdie on the par-5 5th before adding two more on par-3’s in round three with just one bogey.

“Cynthia was back to her normal game this week,” Broderick continued.  “She is still battling an injury, but she is a pure fighter & competitor in all that she does.”

Chandler Gallagher (Kansas City, Mo.) notched her third straight top-15 result with a 14th place finish with rounds of 73 and 75 on day two.  In round two, Gallagher tallied four birdies, including back-to-back on Nos. 3 and 4, while recording 15 pars in round three

“It’s great to see Chandler finish out the fall season with another top-15 finish,” Broderick added.  “She has been our team’s leader this season with her consistency on the course and influence off the course.  Chandler would tell you this herself, but she just could not get many putts to fall this week. She did an excellent job of staying patient and started making more putts during her third round.”

Celine Lim (Shah Alam, Malaysia) was the Roos next lowest finisher in a tie for 36th after shooting a five birdie round two that included a bogey-free back nine, giving her a personal best 72, and adding a six birdie in round three.

“It was exciting to watch Celine score so well this morning,” Broderick said.  “She was putting the best she’s ever putted and it was wonderful to see her with so much confidence.”

Tying for 44th was Maria Henao (Pereira, Colombia) who carded a single birdie in each of the final two rounds.

“Maria was also a fighter today coming through for the team this afternoon with a good score,” Broderick said.  “She struggled in the morning with getting things going her way, but when the third round started she turned a switch and played well.”

In the round, Henao carded her lone birdie on the par-5 12th, while Lim tallied 12 pars on the day.

Cyrielle Kern (Paris, France), meanwhile, rounded out the UMKC lineup in a tie for 76th after notching two birdies in the second round

Southern Miss claimed the team title in the event, while Wyoming’s Gabrielle Gibson was the individual medalist at -5.

The Blue & Gold will be back in action again in February when they open up their spring slate.

“There is a lot to be proud of as we conclude our fall season, but as talented as these young ladies are, there is still work to be done,” Broderick concluded.  “Stay tuned because I think the spring season could be something special.”
