DES MOINES, Iowa – The UMKC men’s soccer team (2-3-3) suffered its third straight loss on Saturday night, falling 2-1 at Drake (3-6), to close the nonconference portion of its schedule.

UMKC goalkeeper Filippo Errico (Verona, Italy) went to work early in the net for the Roos, collecting his first save of the evening in the fourth minute of action. In his first start of the season, Bronson Watts (Camden, N.C.) helped start UMKC’s offensive momentum, firing the first shot of the match for the Roos in the 15th minute.

UMKC’s sixth shot of the half converted into the Roos 11th goal of the season. In the 30th minute, two Drake defenders collapsed around Pandelis Popgeorgiev (Budapest, Hungary) on the right side of the box. A wide open Christian Anderaos (Sao Paulo, Brazil) called for the ball from his teammate, as he slid the ball into the back post past the Bulldog goalkeeper to give UMKC the 1-0 advantage.

In the 57th minute of the match, Drake added the equalizer on the board on a breakaway by Leroy Enzugusi. Despite UMKC’s continued effort, the Roos were unable to keep the Bulldogs off the board for the remainder of the game, as the game-winning goal came in the 68th minute of play to lift Drake over the Roos.

Popgeorgiev finished the game with a team-high four shots, while Watts and Enric Ferrer (Barcelona, Spain) each tallied three for the Roos.

UMKC will return to Durwood Soccer Stadium to open Western Athletic Conference play when it hosts UT Rio Grande Valley (Sept. 29) and Incarnate Word (Oct. 1) as a part of men’s soccer alumni weekend.
