TULSA, Okla. – UMKC men’s tennis (11-8) dominated Oral Roberts (9-11) 7-0 on Tuesday afternoon at the Philcrest Tennis Center. The Roos have now won three straight matches.
Airam Castellano (Gran Canaria, Spain) beat Barnabas Koncz 6-3, 6-4 in No. 1 singles to improve to 13-6 overall and 9-2 in his last 11. Uldis Gaismins (Riga, Latvia) defeated Jan Pehnec 6-3, 6-3 on the No. 2 court. Tom Kruse (Flensburg, Germany) defeated Amar Saletovic by the same score in his No. 3 singles debut, improving to 10-8 during his freshman season.
Amaury Navette (Paris, France) outlasted Kenneth Allen Boykin 6-4, 2-6, 10-7 in the No. 4 match. Mike Psarros (Athens, Greece) beat Michael Sosnowski 6-4, 6-2 to go to 9-4 overall with five straight victories. Vinh Pham (Lenexa, Kan.) won 6-3, 6-4 over Alvaro Santamaria and is now 6-4 this season while competing on the No. 6 court.
In doubles play, Castellano and Psarros won 6-2 over Boykin and Pehnec. The duo is now 11-1 on the season and has won eight straight. Gaismins and Navette claimed the No. 2 contest 6-3. Kruse and Pham fell 6-0 to Santamaria and Sosnowski to snap their 4-match winning streak.
The Roos close the regular season on Senior Day Thursday at 1:30 p.m. vs. Saint Louis at the Plaza Tennis Center.
