KANSAS CITY, Mo. – The UMKC women’s tennis team continued its fall season when it took part in the USTA/ITA Central Region Championships in Iowa City, Iowa.
In the main singles draw, Katie Fries knocked-off Bradley’s Bozana Lojpur, 6-3, 6-0 before falling to Kansas’ Malkia Ngounoue and Yana Grechkina won over North Dakota’s Amano, 6-1, 6-2 and lost to Tulsa’s Martina Okalova, 6-0, 6-2.
Riddhi Sharma, meanwhile, fell to Nebraska’s Jessica Aragon, 6-4, 2-6, 7-5 and Michela Xibila lost to Iowa State’s Maty Cancini, 6-1, 6-2.
In doubles play, Grace Ball and Thea Dassy beat North Dakota’s Jaylee Yasunaga and Alex Revenig, 8-4, and fell to Minnesota’s Bita Mancera and Juliet Zhang, 8-0, while Fries and Sharma fell to the Oklahoma duo of Kianah Motosono and Laura Rico-Garcia, 8-4 and Grechkina and Xibilia lost to Missouri’s Mackenzy Middlebrooks and Smagina, 8-3.
The Blue & Gold will be back in action again on Oct. 26-28 when they head to Springfield, Mo., for the Missouri State Fall Invitational.
